I am Dr. Culpepper the Founder of Eyesight Concepts.
On the front-line providing eye health services to tens of thousands of patients for over 15 years allows me the chance to educate my patients regarding their eyes and visual system. Consistent feedback from my patients about how well I explain their issues (retinopathy from complications of diabetes, high blood pressure, macula degeneration, cataracts, ocular surface disorders, and glaucoma, just to name a few) and how they really appreciate me taking extra time to empower them led me to start a simple eye health education blog. I named it ODChronicles…OD being one of my professional titles (Doctor of Optometry) and the word “chronicles” to indicate events that were happening along my journey as an Optometric Physician.
The most common issues people asked about were:
1) Why does it take so long to get eyeglasses?
2) What can they use to make their eyes feel better and how can they get eye drops to actually go into their eyes instead of down their cheek or their shirt?
This led me to turn Eyesight Concepts into an eye health product development company that solves everyday eye and vision issues. Making this simple modification is helping to cure my post-exam blues. As a solution-driven person I prefer to provide answers and resources to questions and problems. I feel better when I’m able to actually solve a patient’s problem instead of putting a band aid on it.
As I started looking into solving the eyeglass problem it seemed more time-consuming and the barrier to entry appeared a lot higher. My post-exam blues feel lighter whenever I create and/or modify an eye care product. I’m in a unique position because I can serve my patients inside the exam room as an Optometrist.
