Stress is a contributing factor to vision problems. It can lead to vision problems or make existing ones worse. Our bodies react in different ways to stress which affects the quality of our vision. Let’s take a look at some symptoms we could experience while under stress:
Blurry Vision: Stress can cause our eye muscles to tense up which causes our vision to be blurry.
Eye Strain: Stress can lead to increased eye strain. Especially if we spend a lot of time looking at screens on electronic devices or performing tasks that require intense visual concentration close up.
Headaches: Stress-related tension headaches can cause pain around the eyes and forehead which can indirectly affect our vision.
Dry Eyes: Stress can lead to reduced tear production causing dry eyes which can make our vision uncomfortable as well as blurry.
Light Sensitivity: Stress can make our eyes more sensitive to light causing discomfort and difficulty seeing in bright environments.
Eye Twitching: Stress can sometimes manifest as involuntary eye twitching which can be distracting.
If we experience persistent or severe vision issues during times of stress it’s quite imperative to find ways to manage our stress as quickly as possible to eliminate any disturbances in our vision such as the ones described above. Reducing stress through relaxation techniques, lifestyle changes, and seeking support from someone you feel comfortable confiding in can help alleviate these vision problems. And of course, a therapist and/or healthcare professional are great options as well.
